Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot including celestial beings, evil spirits, and malevolent powers growing in power within the city.
Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season follow below.
The Warrior Group Introduced
The third episode ended with a huge suspense moment and revealed the premier party of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the additional parties.
This warrior group consists of Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
Dividing the Cast
Given 13 cast members, it was evident from the outset that maintaining everyone at one table would be unworkable.
Hence, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Prelude, weaving together the individual narratives before splitting into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Planners, and Explorers.
What Defines the Warrior Group
As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who prefer a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.
Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might seem unsuited, but the actions of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
First, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a intense initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose death initiated the story’s plot—used the enemy for his personal gain, invading Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the rogue, and stealing all the enchanted items to sell off.
The antagonist then cleared his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart the urban setting:
- The rogue, as the close ally and closest confidant, seeks vengeance.
- The adventurer is familiar with the region and advises that it is a dangerous location.
- The strong character and Wicander, having resisted his family’s wishes to kill Teor and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their status as important members in House Halovar could help the group reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, The grateful character pledged a life debt to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are wanted by the authorities that rule the city for a multiple motives, making lingering locally too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and Wicander defied the powerful family and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- The fighter is marked for death by the clan.
This results in them no alternative but to head to the remote area in pursuit of the traitor.
