The anticipation around the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, especially after host Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling image of a strange statue. The mystery is finally answered. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very descent into chaos.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian warned that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This distinction suggests that the team could be designing a faster-paced experience as opposed to another tactical title. For now, it remains theory, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it kicked off the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, player agency, and complex character building—traits that recently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths you can achieve with a distinct build with a personal story.
The series is also famously permissive, enabling players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be solved in a variety of manners, often in lateral fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games ever made. Now, the RPG community can anticipate a new entry in this legendary franchise.
